Description
Kortrijk, De Waterpoort, 1983
Exhibition poster, 59 x 42 cm, printed in black and red on a white background. Text in Dutch.
Exhibition poster for a solo exhibition by Jef Geys at De Waterpoort, Kortrijk in 1983. De Waterpoort was a bar (and exhibition space) in which Francis De Beir curated several exhibitions. Jef Geys presented works in three rooms. The poster was designed by Jef Geys and the black and white drawing represents the art world around De Waterpoort in the early 80s. De Waterpoort wasn’t around for very long, but showed Walter Swennen, Jean Le Gac, Jacques Charlier in 1982, Jef Geys in 1983 and probably a few others in the four years it was around. Liliane Vertessen was in a group exhibition, so we should assume it wasn’t just solo exhibitions. For short story about De Waterpoort, we refer to episode 12 of the podcast series Lilian-eum by Maaike Leyn. We are not not aware of any catalogues issued by De Waterpoort, but we’re interested in any ephemera or posters. It seems like Jef Geys made a list of all the people on the poster, but the reproduction in the catalogue is too small to make out. For now it’s a guessing game.

A good copy, with some faint age toning to the edges.
